Blackfoot Lake Provincial Recreation Area

We spent most of a Saturday out on the trails at Blackfoot Lake Provincial Recreation Area east of Edmonton, Alberta. We hiked a modified version of White Tail and Running Dog loop. Basically we came back a different route than was planned on the maps. We had run into some really muddy areas and tried to avoid the mud on the way back. That kind of worked out and kind of didn’t. We found different mud to deal with.

I didn’t take nearly as many photos as I normally would. I was focused on video for our YouTube channel. As a result, I didn’t get as many photos as I’d normally take.

It’s a nice wide grassy path with some really nice scenery. There was a lot of mud and water in some of the low-lying areas thanks to the beavers in the area. We had to skirt around most of the mud but one section had a stream running across it and mud on both sides. There was a log over it but one of our dogs, Brenna, pulled Christina off balance and she fell into the mud. Yuck. It’s comical now but at the time it wasn’t. There was the potential for her to get hurt and if we were 40 or 50 km into the bush things would not have been funny at all. So, we decided to take a different route back to avoid most of the mud. We still ran into lots of water and mud but nothing we couldn’t handle. The detour added some km’s to the route bringing us close to 22 km for the day. It was enjoyable for the most part. Falling in the mud put a bit of a damper on the mood for a while but not too long.

This vlog from the day is worth the watch.
